Djalma M. Falcão obtained his B.Sc. in 1971 from the
Federal University of Paraná, Brazil,
the M.Sc. in 1973 from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil, and the Ph.D. in 1981 from the
University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK. Since 1974,
he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering of
COPPE, the Graduate School of
Engineering of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where he is currently a Full
Professor. From 1991 to 1993 he was on sabbatical leave at the Department of Electrical
Engineering and Computer Sciences of the
University of California at Berkeley. His general
research interest is in the area of computer methods for power system simulation,
optimization, and control, and the application of high performance computing
and intelligent systems techniques to power system problems.
